Pumping Station 436-X10 (Battle Report)

Pumping Station 436-X10
"Commander, we have just received word from Group, the assault team Alpha to the east has failed.  The bridge is still intact, and in the hands of the enemy!"  Parallel to the attack on the bridge, assault team Dagger was assigned the task of seizing pumping station 436-X10.  Installed at the joint of 3 Rivers, the pumping station was not only vital for the forces of the Imperium, but tactically vital as it would prove to be a stable FOB.

Enemy guns already targeted the air support as it arrived.
Elements of 3 Regiments along with Air support were assigned to the mission.  Elements of the 313th dropped in advance, with elements of Armor and light infantry moving up for support.  Loitering air support was highly effective, but the enemy deployed an unusually high amount of AA guns.
Forward elements have already sized the pumping station. While the rear defends against a flank maneuver.
Already in the opening phases of the battle, Infantry elements along with light armor support had moved up to seize the pumping station, while light Infantry and heavy armor moved to secure the bridges and defend the flank.
Pumping Station Secure
"Sir, we've got incoming enemy air support heading to the target.  Shall we move up in support?" Called the radio operator.

"Damn it, we just lost the bridge, it'll take to long to re-take.  Order the armor up to the river in fire support.  They should still have range on the target and will be able to provide fire support from there."
Ogryn hauler...
As Ogryn's poured from the wrecked Valkyrie, the Infantry holding the pumping station attempted to dig in just a little bit deeper.  Ogryn's were well known for the lack of intelligence, but on the same hand treasured for their singled minded purpose in close combat.
Hold the line!
After chewing through the first line of Infantry, the 313th retreated deeper into the pumping station.  They only needed to hold out until sun set.  At that point the Ogryn's could be killed in their sleep as they laid down there weapons for "nighty night."
Over Kill
Only smoking craters, red graffiti, and the odd piece of kit was to be found, after 2 Multi-Lassors, 4 Heavy Bolters, and 2 Exterminator Cannon's fired upon the last 2 Ogryns's.

##########################################

Well much like the previous game, we came up with our own scenario and rules. The river was impassable for Infantry, Dangerous for all vehicles that weren't amphibious.  Only the central bridge in the middle, and the bridge joining the two deployment zones.  Objective was the Pumping station and holding on to it.

I think the pictures explain what happened pretty good, but just a short one liner.  I Won, but I did it in the bottom of the 6th, with quite literally my very last shots from an exterminator.   If I hadn't managed it, I have no doubt that I would have lost in the 7th turn.

Twas a great game, and once again I had a blast!

Destroy the Bridge (Battle Report)

Elements of BG-82 advance upon the target.

As part of the defense Avenweddon Marshal Argos BG82 was ordered to move up and secure the western flank, Marshal Argos immediately seized the Ridge line to form a natural line of defense.  With the ridge under control, BG-82 set out to secure a number of bridges and infrastructure targets before the enemy was able to destroy them.
The enemy secured the bridge, but the 313th isn't done yet.
Elements of the 313th DTR jumped in ahead of the main force to secure a number of vital objectives prior to the attack on the bridge.  Forward elements of the 7th Scansin and the 73rd AR, moved up in support before gathering for the main thrust.

Break through! But can they hold.
The main force was required to secure the bridge, and detonate it from the other side.  Below the Imperial Square Monument were the control's to detonate the bridge.  This was to be considered the last resort, but within the first hour of the engagement was already being undertaken.

Air support was called in, and successfully took out the Chaos lord, along with a Daemon. Untold traitors meet their end under the fiery blaze of the Avenger's Gatling cannon.

A single Chimera was able to cross the river and charge on to the secondary objective.  The rest of the assault force was scattered on the eastern edge of the river, unable to assist, and still pursued by traitor marines.
Will the Single Squad be able to detonate the bridge?
In the end I end the traitors were able to contest the objective, and as the sun set upon the battlefield the bridge still stood.  The assault force pulled back under cover of darkness, collecting their wounded along the way.  Although this bridge was lost, there were more important objectives that had been secured that day.

I had a great game a few weeks ago, and realized I never posted this.  We pretty much just made up our own mission, objectives, and deployment zones; and then went out about crushing each others armies. I had a great game, even though I lost, it was the most fund I'd had in a long time.  I've got a couple more posts along these line, I just need to get them all typed up.

Operation Stonewall (Day 16) - Battle Report

Cpt.  Milford's first mistake, setting up his defensive live to close to the enemy.
The downfall of 14th Company, 313th DTR.  It began in the early evening on Friday the 13th. Three and half hours later, and I saw my entire army get chewed through as if it were nothing but Swiss cheese with extra holes.  I won't go into each and every gory detail but rather just highlight a few parts of the game.

So I faced of against 1500 Pts of 'Nids in a Eternal War: Big Guns Never Tire mission using the Vanguard Strike deployment.  As you may have noticed, mistake one... Setting up right on the edge of the deployment zone.  IMHO this was really something I shouldn't have done.  It ensured that he was able to get way to close way to quick and gave me little time to hammer him at range.
The 19th Lancers trot up to form a mobile reserve.
The entire center of my defense falls apart in turn 2.

Turn one was rather uneventful. But at the end of turn two, I pulverized his Warlord, but somehow it was able to let out some sort of Psychic scream thing.  And of course while right in the middle of my formation.  In that one turn, I lost the following: 2 Exterminators, 2 Sentinels, 1 Infantry Squad, 80% of a PCS, 70% of a 2nd Infantry squad, and half of my cavalry...  I was doomed.
40 Something shots at my Avenger in one turn, and not a scratch...
After turning tail attempting to consolidate what was left of my army on the one Objective that I still had the 'Nid Swarm moved in getting ready for dinner. The one highlight of the game for me was the massive amount of fire that my Avenger took without suffering any damage.
The Company and both Platoon Command squads rally on an Objective.
As you can see above, by the end of turn 5 there wasn't much left.  The Chimera had 1 HP, and only it's heavy Bolter left.  It's hard to tell in the pic but there's 4 different squads (what's left of them) sitting on the objective.
Lt. Albin and Sgt. Garry are all that's left.

The end of Turn 6, the pic above explains it all...
I lost 10 points to 4.  Completely wiped out my army except for one officer and a Sgt. and a chimera for them to ride home in.

Operation Stonewall

A section of G. Troop 19th Lancers moves up in support of the 313th..
"Well that could have gone down a lot worse." Thought Col. Sutherland, as he read through the after action report published by Group HQ.  It seems that the 313th caught the worst of the action, but more worrying is the fact that Intelligence has confirmed that the aliens were Tyranids.  "Adjutant, please inform the rest of the officers that Weapons Drill and Maintenance should be stepped up.  We don't want to have any issues in case there's more of them out there. "

Troopers of the 313th prepare to defend their Objective in the face of the Enemy.
Yes Sir, is there anything else Sir?  Replied Lt. Wilbert.

Sipping his coffee, Sutherland thought for a moment. "Yes, inform the officers that we'll hold a meeting with the G2 (Battle Group Intelligence) after Officers Mess.  I want everyone there so that no wild rumors start to spread among the line about these "Aliens"."
G. Troop Lancers, under command of Sgt. Doster, charge into the enemy.

#################################################################

Well my first game in 7th ended in a draw at turn 5.  If we had played another 1 or 2 rounds, I probably would have lost, but I'll take a draw.  It was a great game, even if we had to check the rules a hundred times, and I'm looking forward to getting in a few more games this year.

I also used the Avenger in this game, and even though it didn't show up until turn 3, it came in and starting ripping up the enemy!!  I'll have to work on tactics with it though, because being able to turn a maximum of 90 degrees per turn is something I'm not used to.

Operation Condor (2000 pts vs Chaos)

 ------------------------------------------------------------------------
++++++PRIORITY:  Low
 ++TRANSMITTED: 313th Rgt. Signals
++++++RECEIVED: Trooper Holweg
 +++DESTINATION: Col. Pallidar

  +++++++SUBJECT: Operation Condor AAR
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Col. Pallidar,

I respectfully submit my after action review of the recently completed operation "Condor".  The mission was a success and was pushed the forces of chaos out of 70% of the area's we had intended.  Only in one zone were we not able to reach our objectives, this was due in part to cowardice in the face of battle, and the Daemon Prince that decapitated Delta Company commander and his command team.

Daemon Prince on the Charge

As I mentioned after deploying for battle the Deamon Prince flew into our line, and Cornet Pulaski apparently froze in combat. Instead of leading his men into a flanking action, he had them dress to the right and stand to.  In the following minutes he and his troopers waited until the Deamon Prince charged into his line, and cut them down to a man.  What exactly he was thinking we shall never know.  Afterwards the Daemon Prince charged into the company command team, and well sir. We won't be burying much of them Sir. Sir, if I may speak freely, I do hope that the rest of the Cavalry has a stronger fighting spirit than they did.
Cavalry's last stand
 The Daemon was stopped at that point by the men of 2nd Squad 1st Platoon.  If Reports are true, after seeing the company commander fall, Sgt Anderson rallied his men and they poured down fire on the Daemon Prince.  The Daemon was slain moments later, and Senior Lt. Netzlin took over command.  Sir I respectfully request that Sgt Anderson be awarded the "Steal Aquila", and his troopers the "Bronze Halo" and given a 7 day pass after they have been examined for traces of taint.

Once again the Artillery of the 73rd has proved it's worth.  Basilisks were able to provide not only direct and in-direct fire, but they accurately dropped shells to within meters of friendly forces engaged with Chaos Cultists. Although a few guardsman were injured by shrapnel, the arty fire was effective in saving the squads life.
The Forces of Chaos
 Currently Delta company 313th DTR is being led by Senior Lieutenant Netzlin, 1st Platoon Commander.  He's proved his worth in holding the company together after Anderson was killed, and I recommend that he remain in place.  Whether or not he should be promoted I leave to you.

As an aside.  The detachment from the 7th Scansin performed surprisingly well for such a fresh Regiment.  Holding the right flank was not easy, and the troopers their performed admirably. Please pass my regards to their commander.

Respectfully,
Major Thomas
Commanding
1st 313th Regimental Combat Team

So last night I got my last game in prior to the release of the new "Astra Militarum" Codex.  I'll miss my IG codex, but they will always be Imperial Guard for me.  We played the following:  2000Pts,  Mission: Crusade /   Deployment: Hammer and Anvil.  The game was fun, but a bit long.  I prolly should have stuck to a 1750pt game, but I wanted to get one last "big" game in before our 'dex goes away.

As you saw above, I ended up loosing the game.  The Daemon Prince really hurt me, and so did the 3 Dreadnoughts that marched up the center of the table.  I poured as much fire as I could into them and 2 of them lived through all 5 rounds... In the end I just couldn't get my forces around the table edges fast enough to contest the objective in the middle.  That is in part my fault as I concentrated my assaulting forces in the middle, in front of 3 Dreadnoughts.

Defense of Avenweddon

Arial view of "East Ovis Orientalweide" prior to the Chaos Attacks.  Much of the city has already been destroyed by Chaos bombardments.

"We're still holding sir but it's not looking good. We've had to pull our forces out of the eastern part of the region.  The vile forces of Chaos are using some sort of heresy to block out the sun and wreck havoc on our instruments.  We can barely see the enemy, much less maneuver against him."  Col. Pallidar hoped that he was getting through to Battle Group command.  The atmospherics were only getting worse the closer the enemy came.

Turning away from the Vox, Marshal Argos could barely control his anger.  "Get me the senior representative from the AdMech and from the Ecclesiarchy.  One of them had better have a solution for this."  We need our sensor net we we're going to defeat these bastards.  "And get one of the Witches over here.  Maybe one of THEM can do something about this, if the others can't."  The battle had started early, but everything started out as planned.
Last view from Camera 34.259, before city goes black.
But somehow the sun never came up, shuddering Argos tried to push the thoughts from his mind.  "Marshal Argos, what is it that I may do for you?" Squeaked the Tech Magos as he came upon the battle plotter.

My Emperor, when will he get that speaker fixed, maybe someone needs to tell him.. thought Argos before replying.  "Well for one you can have someone check your voice box.  You're going to kill someone with that high pitched voice of yours.  And after that you can find a way to get our tactical sensor net back up and running.  Without it we're shooting in the dark.  I have 3 Regiments up there with untold PDF forces and they're all useless to me if they can't see the enemy or at least pass on targeting information for the artillery and Super Heavies."
Elements of the 7th Scansin move up with support from the 313th DTR.
"Sir, there's something going on." Shouted Sgt. Baker seconds before a bright light followed by a thunderous roar, knocked 3rd Squad and the Platoon HQ to the ground.  "They're behind us!!"  went up the cry all along the front.

Almost knocked to the ground Col. Pallidar quickly regains his senses when as realizes that the enemy is now behind them.   "Quickly men, defend the armor!"  He shouts, urging his command team and the troopers around him to get into a supporting position.  He knew already that it would be a lost fight, there was no way his troopers could stop the beasts falling upon them. They just need to slow them down long enough for the armor to pull out and Astartes to move up.

"Pick him up you fool, don't just stand there."  Yelled Lt. Albertson of the 7th Scansin.  "I don't give a damn if I'm not part of your Regiment, your Colonel needs your help!  And by the Emperor so long as I'm assigned to your Regiment as a Liaison you will do as I ordered!"   The fight hadn't lasted more than mere seconds before the entire squad was killed, thought Albertson.  Looking up at the medics carrying Col. Pallidar away, there was barely time to pull the Colonel out of there before those daemons charged right by us. Where were the Astartes?  Why didn't they move in to assist?

"Joe... Joe... JOE!!!!" screamed Private Smith, before giving up and just hitting him upside the head.  Ever since those tread heads moved up into a position behind them, they couldn't hear a damn thing.  Even the ringing has faded away to silence.

Last charge of Lt. Cropper
"Signals, relay the following:  All Imperial forces pull back to Objective line Delta.  I repeat, All Imperial forces pull back to Objective line Delta!"  He'd heard enough though, Argos sat back in his chair as his command tank began to move off.  This did not go as planned, but better to pull back now than to waste more material and men in lost cause.  The situation was not getting better, and without being to bring his big guns to bear it wasn't going to.  We need to find out what was causing the blackouts and comms issues.  We need to find a way to counter it. We can't let this happen again, or the planet may very well fall into the arch enemies hands.

I was actually supposed to post this up a month ago, but never got around to finishing it.  Hope ya'll enjoyed the read.

War of Avenweddon (Part 1)

------------------------------------------------------------------------
++++++PRIORITY:  High
++TRANSMITTED:  Col. Pallidar, Battle Group 82

+++DESTINATION: Vallivar Sub-Sector Imperial Field HQ
+++++++++++REF:  DJS-5548-163
+++++++SUBJECT: War of Avenweddon
------------------------------------------------------------------------

My esteemed colleagues, it is with my deepest regret that I inform you that the forces of Chaos have gained a foot hold on the planet Avenweddon.  The Imperial forces under command of the Wolf Lord CLASSIFIED were unable to hold back the forces of chaos as their reinforcements arrived in the city.  The Space Marine forces, though successful in holding two of the critical battlefield locations were unable to respond in time to keep the traitors from over running Fox Co. 313th, and the supporting PDF forces.

Guard all lined up, (and no that's not me)

Although extremely successful in the opening phases of battle, the crushing numbers of reinforcements brought in turned the tide.  After Marshal Argos was wounded and evacuated from the field of battle, the coordinated attacks against the traitor force's began to fall apart.

Following the detailed plans of Marshal Argos, we have assumed a cordon of defense trapping the traitors in the fallen city.  The artillery assigned to the 73rd Armored and PDF have assumed a 24/7 bombardment of the city, with support from the Legio Astramann.

A more detailed report, along with supporting documents will be forwarded for review as soon as Marshal Argos returns to duty.

73rd Armored vs Space Puppies

I tried a new list out the other day at the Friday games night.  An armor heavy list with just 2 vets squads as my troops and Commissar Lord as my HQ, and you know something?  I loved it!!

I'm normally the guy that plays an Infantry heavy list with a 2 Bassie's and maybe a Russ.  For larger games I'll break out the Manticore and a 2nd Russ or my Sentinels but that's about it for armor.   Now with me building the Exterminators and all, I decided to give them a go in this list and I have to say they ROCKED!  Those 3 Exterminators cleared 3 Space Puppie squads clean off the table.

Now, in the end I lost the game and the deciding moment was here:
I moved my 2 Russes forwards instead of back which was the smart thing to do, enabling me to use their long range to shoot at the enemy.   Because of this, his Termie's were able to assault my tanks and in one round destroy them, completely clearing out my left flank and opening a clear avenue of approach to my Bassies behind the forest. Next time I'll think a little more before making my move...

313th vs. Necrons

       Having been notified of unknown movement reported by ground sensors strewn out to cover their the flanks BG-82 Command dispatched elements of the Mike Company 313th supported by artillery and armor support from the 73rd Armored Regt.   Arriving at the coordinates, Cpt. Holdt saw the reason the sensors were activated... "Necrons" he thought.  He immediately went about emplacing his support squads and armor, but there was little time before the C'tan lord charged into them.  "Bring it Down" he ordered, "I want everything we have on it until he's dead."  Cpt. Holdt was a firm believer in the theory of  shoot the big one's first.  Especially if they charge you.
      Missile after missile flew into the floating horror coming at them. Artillery and tanks shells exploded sending geysers of dirt in the air, but onward it came.  Holdt's infantry squads had no time to get into cover, for their heavy missile launchers were needed from the start.  With an ear splitting WHALLOP a monster of an alien tank appeared directly in front of them.  Thunderous lighting leapt out at the armor supporting them.
"Infantry this is Armor, we're still here" vox'd Sgt. Brown "But those two are inside our Arty limits"."Thunder 1 and 2 moving to fire directly, Whistler engaging targets in the forest".  Cpt. Holdt new he had to kill the C'tan and enemy tank if he wanted to get out of here alive.  "2nd Plt. swing right and see if you can't outflank these fraggers" he yelled across the comm bead.
     Scant minutes later and the C'tan disappeared in a flash of light and being hit with plasma gun from 2nd Platoon's command team.  One down thought the Captain, if it hadn't cost us 20 something troopers to do it, it might have been worth while.  If we don't take this tank down quick we're done for he thought, as his heavy weapons teams fired once again.
1st Platoon was almost gone, 2 squads, 20 troopers... If it wasn't for that damned damned enemy squad that appeared from nowhere thought Cpt. Holdt.  Suddenly "Command! Command! this is Lt. Brewer.  We're gone sir, there's only us left, 1st.. 2nd squads wiped...  We're g.....  aaarrrrrrhhhhh....."  and then only silence.  That's it thought the Captain, it's time we bring the fight to them.
With no officers left alive it was up to Sgt. Wilson to get what remained of the company out alive.  He still had 20 men with him, his squad and 2 heavy weapon teams.  Throw in the armor that made it and we just might be able to make it back he though.  He still couldn't explain it the enemy had them, and suddenly they all began to just disappear.  It was eerie, the silence they left behind on the battle field.  Wilson new they lost this fight, what with more than half the company killed or wounded, and all it's officers dead, but some had survived and those survivors would continue to fight and die for the Emperor.

313th vs Tyranids

tschja, what can I say, I played a 1750 point "Dawn of War" mission, and stupidly chose to go first...  meaning that I wasted my entire first round of shooting.  The Imperial Navy scum attached to my army actually did something for once, and made sure his flankers came out on the wrong side (for him) of the board.  I screwed up my flank defense (which just about cost me the game) and the 'nids rolled along the board edge to my objective.

This was quite literally a fight to the death as I threw everything I could at his 2 Trygons raping my objective.  I pulled out a last game (6th turn) draw by the skin of my teeth and the bravery of a lowly LT who stood his ground while Battle Cannon and Basilisk shells leveled everything around him.  Seeing the giant Tyranid "Alpha" still alive he pulled out his Plasma pistol and shot the beast in the head to secure the objective.

I'll get pics posted once I get them and a more detailed battle report typed up in the next few days.

313th vs Chaos

Hello gents,
I just want to relay a sad experience from last week. You see, I set out to play at a new club in a city nearby and ended up playing a 2000 pt game against Chaos. In total, my list looked something like this.

HQ w/creed and 2 bodyguards

1st plt HQ with plas/melta/vox
3 Inf Squads (GL/Plas/Plas)

2nd Plt HQ with Plas/vox
4 Inf Squad (Plas/GL/GL/GL)

Mortor sqd
x2 ML Sqds

3 sentinals (individual) 2 w/LC

1 LR
1 Manticore
2 Bassies.

I'm not sure on his list. But I know he had a Vindicator, and LC Predator, 4 squads mounted in Rhinos, and a HQ Squad mounted in a Rhino. I stole the initiative and got to go first, moved most of my Inf up 6" and promptly destroyed a Rhino and the Vindicator. armata_PDT_34.gif In his turn he moved the now dismounted squad to cover, and moved the other 4 rhinos up and popped smoke. Now is where things started sucking!!!

I dicked up my turn by giving my orders to my 2 ML squads, and then (here's where it got bad) instead of shooting with my tanks/arty I just continued on shooting with my Inf. You see I had just shot with 2 ML squads and just seemed to go with the flow and stay with infantry squads, BIG MISTAKE! In total 3 of my 6 Plasma gunners killed themselves, and not one did any damage. So, now it's time to shoot the big guns, and of course they knock out NOTHING!! Yup, he made every one of his cover saves due to smoke....

See where this is going? At this point he dismounts, moves six, and assaults six, and half my army is now engaged in CC... and we all know how good IG does in CC.

Moral of the story. Pop the damn transports with your armor and heavy weapons BEFORE shooting with your infantry squads. This is common sense and every commander should know this, but in the heat of the battle you need to keep a clear head and stick to the plan...   I'm sure there's other points to be made as well, but I really think this was the biggest problem I had.

313th vs. Black Templars

Warning: Long post with many words and lots of pictures.

I wanted to take a try and write a battle report written as a story, well that ain't gonna happen. I just don't have the time nor the imagination to put whats in my head to paper. So instead I'm going to just put up a series of photos and a basic diagram of the battle. It was my first "true" battle with the new 'dex, and against a new opponent, someone I'll just call "Agent C" visiting Germany for two weeks from Greece. I have to admit I had a great time playing and it was the first time in 3 long years that I played a game in ENGLISH!!! We played capture and control with a standard deployment.

So to start off here's a basic picture after set up. My plan was to conduct a pincer like maneuver with 1st and 2nd Platoons. I joined 2 squads in each to give me 2o man squads, the 3rd squad from each would both stay behind to provide defense for the support teams and company command team, yet still be ready to move up if needed. The 2 gold stars were our objectives I had to not only defend mine but also capture his. I wasn't to worried about defending against his Initiates, it was the 10 man Termie Squad waiting in reserves that really got the heart going.

Just prior to being assaulted... I used FRFSRF twice to try and take out as many SM's as possible, but as you can see from the picture it didn't help as much as I had wanted. At this point in the game he was still making all his saves.

Here's what's left of a twenty man squad, and the Platoon HQ after 2 rounds of CC. The LT didn't last long by himself.

At the start of turn 2 his Termies DS'd right in front of the terrain containing my Support squads, 2 infantry Squads and my Company HQ. In the first turn they wiped out my HB squad. In the 3th turn, they targeted my Company HQ, only the commander himself survived. But the good news is that in my 4th turn shooting phase I wiped them out. "Agent C" just couldn't role enough 2's to save the entire squad, in fact I hit the last termie with 18 lasgun shots and he was still there, it was a SGT with a BP that finally killed him. I do believe decorations are due for him.

Yeah, just a shot of the Basilisk, because it's one of my favorite models.

And at the end of the battle here's where we stood. My Plt HQ ran in the last two shooting phases to get 6 inches from his Objective, still to far away to claim it. On my side of the field though I still had a full squad sitting on my objective and "Agent C's" EC was 5" away. It may not be pretty but it was the first game and first win for the 313th with the new Codex.
